The last book this week is The Easter Egg by Jan Brett. My kids and preschool classes love her books because of the intricate illustrations, the scene’s and second story going on in the side panels, and her fun fold out pages!
Storytime Activity Guide:

(If you need any materials, please let me know and I will put together a box for you to pick up. I’m also linking to amazon here)
Aluminum Foil
Cardboard or cereal box cut into egg shape
Sharpie or permanent markers
Dice
Markers
White eggs
Vinegar
Jar that an egg will fit in
Prep:
Cover table with tablecloth
Set up supplies in easy reach
Open Ended Project: Foil Covered Egg
Cut a piece of cardboard into a large egg shape. Wrap with foil. Using a sharpie with the cap still on, “draw” designs or indentations into the egg to decorate it. Use the colorful sharpies to fill it in and make it brightly decorated.
Art Activity #1: Color By Dice Game
Make a chart for yourself with your 6 favorite colors. Assign one color to each number on the dice, for example: 1=Red, 2=Blue etc. Using white eggs, either hard boiled or raw, and a dice, play this egg decorating game! Roll the dice, and then use the color assigned to that number on the chart, to add something to the egg. Keep rolling the dice until you have it fully colored in! Make stripes, or shapes, or squiggles or whatever you can think of.
Art Activity #2:
Make a bouncy egg! By soaking a raw egg in vinegar for 24 hours, you can turn a hard shell into something quite bouncy. Follow the instructions here: Make an egg BOUNCE and have fun!
If you’re on instagram, I’d love to see what you make and do! Use #honeybeestorytimeart so I can see it too.
Thanks for encouraging a love of art and stories with your children, it means a lot to me!
