Open Ended Project: Resist Egg Painting
Draw a large egg shape on a piece of watercolor or thick paper. Using oil pastels or crayons, draw horizontal stripes and add patterns and designs within the stripes. If children have other ideas for how to decorate their egg, they are welcome to follow their own path. Make sure to leave white space in the background because the next step is to paint. Using watercolors, paint the whole egg, noticing how the paint resists the oil pastel or crayon. Make the stripes separate colors, or paint as you choose!

Art Activity #1: Easter Egg Maracas
Fill a plastic egg with beans or rice. Use two plastic spoons, one on each side of the egg, to make a handle and wrap with masking tape or clear packing tape to attach. Add detail and design to the tape to decorate. Now shake!
Art Activity #2: What’s that Sound?
In this game, we take turns shaking a plastic easter egg, trying to guess what is inside it.
Find 6-12 plastic easter eggs. Send the kids around the house to find different things to fill the eggs with that will be mysterious and hard to guess. We’ve used a button, a feather, some grass, a tissue, a few cheerios and other small, unexpected items. Once the eggs have been filled, exchange them with each other to try to guess what is inside! It’s harder than it sounds!
If you’re on instagram, I’d love to see what you make and do! Use #honeybeestorytimeart so I can see it too.
Thanks for encouraging a love of art and stories with your children, it means a lot to me!
