Today’s book is Bunny’s Book Club by Annie Sylvestro. This book was new to us last year and quickly became a favorite.

Storytime Activity Guide:

Materials:

(If you need any materials, please let me know and I will put together a box for you to pick up)

Printer paper or any light colored paper

Stapler

Construction or watercolor paper for book cover

Scissors

Ribbon or yarn

Hole punch

Markers or colored pencils

Prep:

Cover table with tablecloth

Set up supplies in easy reach

Open Ended Project: Bookmark

Using any plain paper, cut it into long strips (or any shape that will be big enough to stay in a book). Punch a hole at the top and tie ribbon or yarn through. Use coloring supplies to decorate the bookmark as you please. Some fun ideas: Write words about reading, draw a stack of books, draw your favorite animal reading a book, draw images from your favorite book, cut out images from magazines to glue to the bookmark.

Make multiple bookmarks to give to other readers in your family!

Art Activity #1: Books for Stuffies

Cut construction paper to small rectangles, maybe 2”x4” or similar. Cut printer or light colored paper to a slightly smaller size. Fold both papers in half and staple at the edge to make a tiny book. Draw and write on the cover, add words to the inside (a real story or imaginary) and give to your stuffy. Make a library of books so your stuffy and its friends can come check out books to read for their book club.

Art Activity #2: Virtual Book Club

Choose a friend and find a book that you both have in your home library. Don’t have a book in common? Choose an audiobook from Overdrive or from the library. Listen to it and then use FaceTime or Zoom to talk about the book together. What did you like about it? What part was weird or funny? What comments did you make while listening to it? When you have finished discussing the book, choose the next book to read before your next book club meeting.

If you’re on instagram, I’d love to see what you make and do! Use #honeybeestorytimeart so I can see it too.

Thanks for encouraging a love of art and stories with your children, it means a lot to me!
